General Notes:
Died as of unsound mind. Family returned to Canada From the National Archive Folio 810. Letter from John Kirkland, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southwell Union, to the Poor Law Board, concerning Sampson Freeman, aged 46, of Edwinsowe. He is a pauper lunatic in the Nottingham Asylum, charged to the Southwell Union; his wife and 7 children are inmates of the Southwell workhouse. The family had come to Edwinstowe from Upper Canada 18 months ago when Freeman was of unsound mind. The medical officer states that he will never get any better and his family wish to return to Canada, where they have friends and relations. The guardians wish to know if they can pay their passage back to Canada, at a cost of about £30. The husband will remain in the asylum.
Sampson married Amy Julian Farr, daughter of William Rees Farr and Rebecca Collins Julian, in 1856. (Amy Julian Farr was born on 19 Nov 1837, christened on 19 Nov 1837 in Truro St Mary, Cornwall and died on 15 Jan 1883 in Toronto, Canada.)
