Dora Elizabeth Bunting

  General Notes:

Third child and second daughter of Sir Percy Bunting. Born London 6.1.1877. Attended North London Collegiate School for Girls. She studied medicine (following cousin Bonté's lead), at the Royal Free Hospital, one of the few medical schools to receive women. Various entries in The British Medical Journal. She was for over 25 years Assistant Medical Officer of Health for maternity and child welfare at Southampton from 1921. Officially retired June 1944 except continued working because of the war. Frances Lidgett, Jack's sister, together with other sister Hilda (they both abandoned Methodism for Catholicism) shared a house with Dora in Southampton, possibly 35 Welbeck Avenue though Dora died at 19, Cavendish Grove circa March 1946. Did not marry.
