Frederick Robert Jarman
General Notes: Fred by the time he had reached the age of twenty decided he wanted a life on the ocean waves. His mother had died from heart disease aged 52 in 1869 in Holecombe. He was a market gardener along with his elder brother Charles. It would appear the demise of his mother lead Fred away. We know he was a merchant seaman and sailed in the south china seas. From this sight we see that Charles and brother Robert were both accomplished seaman, noteably Charles who skippered many named vessels. It would appear that when they were at sea and when they were on land their trades changed. This is evident on CAW signing as witness to family weddings and births etc., Fred settled in India employed on the railways. Kotkapora and Ferozapore were railway stations were communities settled and grew into towns and villages most employed by the railway companies. Mary Jane Whalen (aka Whalen - Phillips) was resident in that town. They married 27/11/1888 and between then and 1901 they had eight children the last two twins. Mary died giving birth to the twins. The Ayah wet nursed the twins. Fred never remarried. He died and is buried in Sewri Cemetery in Bombay. Frederick married Mary Jane Whalen on 27 Nov 1888 in Ferozapore, India. (Mary Jane Whalen was born in 1868 in Ferozapore, India and died in 1901 in Bombay, India.) |
