Janet Kendall notes "William Kendall and family landed at Quebec City, then traveled via rail to Saint John, New Brunswick. From New Brunswick they journeyed via wagon or cart to River Hebert, Nova Scotia.
They settled on a farm, but the boys (Fred and Joe) very soon enlisted and went overseas with the CEF. After the war ended, Joe and Fred returned to River Hebert just as William and Caroline moved west to Manitoba. The boys stayed in River Hebert and went back into the mines to support their new families, but the work was precarious and sporadic. Joe heard through a friend about the good opportunities at a paper mill in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, so he packed up and moved his young family inland. Fred followed not long afterwards with his family and the brothers lived out their days in that town.
