Alfred Thomas Hose
General Notes: Veterinary Practicianer, Pathologist. Although many years of my life were lived in Anerley, not far from Beckenham, I did know much about the place. As a boy I cycled to Cator Park and to what was known as Beckenham Rec. Sometimes on Sunday's we might amble through the cemetery to cheer ourselves up and pass on through the sewage farm in order to savour the rural atmosphere. As a boy was given a very valuable old Jacobus Stainer violin by his grandfather and sent to violin lessons. Played with the Sydenham Road Orchestra for a short time. Many years later found the violin was a fake and sold it for £10. Thinks the dealer probably sold it on for £2,000 to another customer. Considers himself a "black sheep" for his Humanist views. In 1939 joined the Royal Artillary served in Bremen and Kiel. After the war returned to Anerley became involved in the Beckenham town watch committee involved in film censorship. |
